Objective
The 2025 rebrand of the Queensland Football Gala, sought to elevate the event from a static presentation to an immersive and unified experience. Our team set out to:
-
Modernise and innovate the event
-
Leverage 5 years of brand affinity
-
Connect it to the Qld Football Convention
-
Create a cohesive & immersive experience
Scale
Football Queensland’s premier end-of-year event, recognising advanced leagues and community contributors across the entire state.
My Role
I led the creative and broader FQ team through concept development and strategy.
Our art direction set the tone - glass and gold, 2D to 3D - which we sought to manifest in every element of the event experience. I took up learning blender to render our organisations logo,. which has come to represent football nation-wide, into a 3D glass centerpiece. After a lot of trial, error and painfully long render times, we had a base of assets to build on.
From there, we developed a refreshed treatment for logos and imagery, whilst keeping black and gold brand equity from the legacy brand. We tested our treatment against best and worst case scenarios such as low quality imagery, players in the wrong club kits and poor logo designs. We adopted the gradient treatment seen here to standardise and solve these challenges. Motion design was a key shift in the capabilites of the new brand. We presented the concept to leadeship.
We presented the final direction to senior stakeholders to secure buy-in.
I managed key deadlines and budgets, coordinating external partners including the venue, AV, print, photographers and trophy manufacturers with internal departments. My focus was on ensuring the continuity of the brand was reflected at every touch point, bridging the gap between the campaign content in the lead up, the digital displays and the physical environment.
Outcome
Our team delivered a cohesive event experience that elevated 2025’s celebration. It came together through a clear art direction that translated into bespoke animations, atmospheric sound and music, a different approach to video, hand-picked trophies and medals, immersive lighting and chic print materials.
We received positive feedback and improved brand sentiment, with patrons expressing the uplift in their event experience. This aligned with increased social engagement across pre-event communications. 2025 set a cohesive, premium event identity that established a scalable framework for future years.
In 2026, the revived brand has evolved further (adjacent), building on the success of 2025 as we prepare for Gala night on Saturday 10 October. More to come.
